Centennial College journalism faculty and students
will play a high profile role in the coming national 2012 Canadian Association of Journalists conference
taking place at the Royal York Hotel April 27-29 2012. They have put in countless hours to help the conference be a success.
Among the team:
is moderating the Friday panel on sports reporting with a look ahead to the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
is a guest on the hyperlocal journalism panel, where he will discuss how the award winning Toronto Observer
has been covering East York and parts of Scarborough.
is moderating the opening plenary Friday April 27 where top executives in Canadian media will deliver a State of the Industry look at Canadian journalism in 2012.
I am co chair of the conference, and also moderating the panel "Local TV News is Back".
is moderator of the law and ethics panel scheduled for the Saturday, with help from student Dylan Robertson
who put it all together.
is coordinator of all the students volunteering at the conference, including on registration, and live blogging and tweeting of the proceedings.
Students Cortney Cook, Sarah Taguiam and Sunnie Huang and graduate Kristen Parucha (the Toronto Star) organized the tremendous line up of newsroom managers and executives for the student hiring tips career panel for the Friday afternoon with moderator Kris Reyes,
graduate and now host of Global News Morning.
They have also organized the much anticipated Speed Dating sessions with newsroom hiring managers and job seekers on the Saturday afternoon.
Television news instructor George Browne
of Globalnews.ca is moderator of the panel on Search Engine Optimization and Social Media Optimization on the Saturday.
Guest lecturer Martin Seto
(Beat reporting) is moderator of the panel on the state of the magazine industry in a multi platform environment.
Instructor Lauren O'Neil
(multi platform journalism tools) is presenting Twitter tricks.
Audio visual whiz Sylvan Ng is supervising the technical requirements for the audio visual contract to make sure all the delegates can see and hear and be heard.
Students Dileen Simms and Aldis Brennan are helping with the layout of the conference magazine and programme.
Graduates Dorian Nicholson and Judy Batay
are in charge of the trade show, and videography (respectively) at the conference.
